Certifying members’ skills
The European Board of Aligner Orthodontics was launched at the 3rd EAS Conference in Porto in 2022, and since the announcement the EBAO has come to life online at https://ebao.eas-aligners.com/dashboard
On the EBAO dashboard, prospective candidates can review the Award Guidelines and click on the step-by-step “How To”, which provides a steer when deciding to register and for which award.
Once registered, and a decision is made to either proceed with the EBAO PROFICIENCY AWARD (2 cases with no oral examination) or with the EBAO CLINICAL EXCELLENCE AWARD (5 cases and an oral examination), the candidate pays the appropriate fee, logs onto the EBAO dashboard, and downloads the templates for case submission.
To date, EBAO has registered 21 candidates: 8 for the EBAO CLINICAL EXCELLENCE AWARD and 2 for the EBAO PROFICIENCY AWARD, with the remaining 11 candidates still to decide which pathway to choose. Candidates can start with the PROFICIENCY AWARD and take the CLINICAL EXCELLENCE AWARD at a later date by submitting a further 3 cases to make up the total 5 cases. There is advice in the Guidance on the period allowed between the 2 stages.
EAS would like to encourage as many aligner orthodontists to undertake EBAO certification as not only is this a personal achievement for those involved, but strengthens the high standards of treatment that aligners can provide.
The first EBAO certification diplomas will be awarded at ceremony at the 4th EAS Congress in Turin this May.
The European Aligner Society looks forward to welcoming delegates to its 4th Congress in the wonderful city of Turin on 11-13th May 2023.
